ROSS BROWN
Ross is the third son of John Charles and Patricia Brown. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer in April 2001 when his brother, John Graham relinquished the role. Prior to this position, Ross was Director Corporate Strategy and was responsible for overseeing a period of sustained market growth, as the wines of Brown Brothers forged an enviable reputation for their flavour and quality throughout Australia and overseas.
Since joining the company in 1970, Ross has overseen the development of Australia's leading Cellar Door, which attracts over 100,000 people each year. One of the main reasons for the success of the company's is that visitors are made to feel welcome and relaxed as part of the rich rural history. Leading the industry with different grape flavours reflects the innovative family culture with the cellar door range of wines always offering exciting new flavour experiences.
Ross was also responsible for initiation and development of the Epicurean Centre where visitors have the opportunity to experience the ideal match of wines and regional food.
Not content to stop with developments at the winery, Ross coordinated a strategic alliance that saw the development of a five star accommodation and conference facility, Lindenwarrah Country House Hotel, on land adjoining the vineyard. Winery Tourism is a rapidly expanding industry for the area and this facility, which opened in August 2001, is proving an outstanding success, enabling Brown Brothers to offer visitors a complete experience; superb premium quality wines, delectable food and high quality accommodation in a beautiful country setting.
In addition to his busy schedule in Australia, Ross spends considerable time overseas. Brown Brothers’ foray into overseas markets has been at Ross’s instigation and it is his commitment to regularly visiting these markets to obtain feedback from industry people and consumers that has seen the company's success increase, to now being recognised as one of Australia's leading premium wine exporters.
Ross's passion for the intricacies of wine and food matching has taken him to consumer and trade events throughout the world. As a result of his vast experience Ross is acutely aware of ever-increasing consumer expectations and the importance to Brown Brothers that they must continue to exceed their customer's expectations.
His commitment to the Australian wine industry is also reflected in the industry bodies in which he is actively involved. His extensive wine experience has seen him elected to the national executive of the Australian Wine Industry Forum and to the Victorian Wine Tourism Council.
Ross has also been active in the development of the wine tourism industry, chairing regional committees to develop strategies that have led to the region being at the forefront of winery tourism.
