Prosecco – the perfect ‘aperitivo’ to a new year

[Sat 25 July 2009]

Brown Brothers has added a classic Italian wine to its innovative sparkling portfolio with the release of its first Prosecco.

Ideally served as an ‘aperitivo’, Brown Brothers 2008 Prosecco is a light and delicate sparkling wine offering aromas of citrus, apple and pear, and a fresh, crisp palate with tight natural acidity.

“The Italians treat Prosecco as the perfect way to start a meal and we believe that Australia, with its ever growing love affair with good food and wine, is more than ready to embrace a drink like this,” said Brown Brothers’ CEO Ross Brown.

“As incomes get tighter, we know that people are going to be spending their money more wisely, so we are delighted to be releasing a new sparkling wine that is not only great quality, but also great value for money.”

Like Pinot Grigio, Prosecco is at its best when grown in cooler regions and picked early to retain the high acidity and crisp flavours most commonly found in wines from north-east Italy. Accordingly, the grapes for this wine were grown in the cooler climes of the family-owned company’s Banksdale vineyard (485m above sea level) in the upper King Valley.

Although delicious on its own, this wine is also great with light ‘dinner starters’ such as fresh oysters, pan fried scallops with lemon dressing or even a selection of sushi and sashimi.

Brown Brothers 2008 Prosecco is available at selected on premise venues, fine wine outlets and Brown Brothers Cellar Door. RRP: $18.90.
