Marking 75 years since the presence of Botrytis Cinerea is thought to have been discovered in Australia, Brown Brothers has released a world class Noble Riesling under its flagship Patricia label.

Requiring notoriously fickle weather conditions to be at its best, Noble Riesling has been missing from the Patricia range since the much revered 2002 vintage, making this 2006 release one to be savoured.

“Brown Brothers has had a long association with Botrytis going back to 1934 when it is believed my father (John Charles Brown) became the first winemaker to recognise the presence of ‘Noble Rot’ in Australia,” said Brown Brothers CEO Ross Brown.

Although skeptical at first, the domestic wine industry eventually confirmed he was right, paving the way for John’s eldest son, John Graham Brown, to produce Australia’s first Noble Riesling in 1962.

“This year marks the 75th anniversary of that initial discovery and it seems fitting that this outstanding wine be released under a label named in honour of my father’s beloved wife – Patricia,” added Ross.

Displaying classic Botrytis characters like stewed apricots, butterscotch, honey, marmalade and citrus, the 2006 Patricia Noble Riesling (RRP $34.95) is highly decorated with 3 Trophies and 5 Gold Medals to its name.

The 2009 suite of Patricia wine releases is available in fine wine outlets and restaurants around the country and also includes:

•    2004 Patricia Pinot Noir, Chardonnay & Pinot Meunier (RRP $39.95) – made ‘Methode Champenoise’ from hand picked Whitlands fruit then rested for four years on its lees.
•    2005 Patricia Shiraz (RRP $55.95) – an intense yet elegant example of classic cool climate Shiraz.
•    2004 Patricia Cabernet Sauvignon (RRP $55.95) – nurtured in the Kindergarten Winery to produce complex, concentrated and rich Cabernet.

This respected range of wines was launched in 2003 as a tribute to Brown Brothers’ much loved matriarch, Patricia. The range is a dedication to her and the love and commitment she gave her family and business for over 60 years.
