Graciano claims Trophy for Best Spanish Wine

[Sat 7 November 2009]

Brown Brothers 2008 Graciano has won a Trophy at the prestigious Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show.

Brown Brothers has a long history of working with this variety dating back to the early parts of the 20th Century and this 2008 was voted as Best Spanish Wine by the judges.

The Show

The Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show aims to provide an alternative to the mainstream wine shows, a dedicated forum for alternative or emerging wine varieties and to encourage alternative, more cutting edge judging procedures. From humble beginnings 10 years ago, the show now attracts over 600 entries from throughout Australia and New Zealand.

The Wine

Graciano has developed a cult-like following with wine lovers at Cellar Door due to its rarity and the wonderful savoury characters that the wine exudes.

This latest release boasts an intense garnet red colour and delicious aromas of blackcurrent, dried herbs, tobacco and spice. The palate is rich, ripe and full of berry flavours with the trademark peppery character typical to this varietal. The wine was aged in old French oak, allowing the natural fruit characters to express themselves.  The 2008 Graciano is drinking well now, although 6 to 10 years in good cellaring conditions will give fantastic results.
